The agreement makes it possible for Map to offer print shops and retailers carbon offset paper products, which means that the climate impact of copy paper and printed material, e.g. books and catalogues will be smaller.

The carbon offsetting is done through tree planting in Mozambique, which is one of the poorest countries in Africa, due to civil wars among other things. The trees are planted in cooperation with smallholders in agro-forestry projects according to the Plan Vivo method.

Tree planting improves the local environment in areas, which are heavily degraded. The farmers receive payment for the tree planting service, which improves their standard of living.

More and more companies include paper consumption when measuring greenhouse gas emissions. This means that printing shops and retailers selling paper must take into account their customers’ requirement for paper products with a low climate impact. To sell carbon offset paper will therefore become a competitive advantage.
