Renewable Energy

Climate compensation through ZeroMission Energy takes the form of investment in projects in the developing world, which lead to energy efficiency and to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. At the moment, fossil fuels are our society's main source of energy and the resulting carbon dioxide emissions are responsible for a large proportion of our climate impact. The energy sector produces one quarter of the total emissions of greenhouse gases globally. The transport sector emits 13 % of the global total and industries emit 20 %.  Whilst the possibility of geological sequestration of carbon dioxide is discussed frequently nowadays, fossil fuels are not infinite and neither are appropriate geological cavities. It is not sustainable to continue our current consumption of fossil fuels; in the long run, energy from the sun, wind and water are the most plausible and sustainable alternatives. We must now expand the use of these alternatives, not least because many developing countries are now facing the decision between investing in fossil based or renewable energy systems to meet the improved welfare and increasing energy consumption of their citizens. If they choose fossil based energy solutions they are likely to get locked in to this system in the same way that the industrialised countries are.

U&W [you&we] works with energy efficiency projects and renewable energy alternatives in developing countries. U&W [you&we] are the Swedish representative for myclimate, a Swiss company that is a world leader in high quality carbon offset projects. Myclimate is a non-profit making foundation.

Through myclimate, U&W [you&we] can offer its customers CDM projects with Gold Standard. This is a guarantee that the investment has social and ecological added value in addition to offsetting carbon. The Gold Standard is a Swiss-based non-profit foundation, which is responsible for a standard supported by 60 NGOs including WWF and Greenpeace.

Businesses that collaborate with myclimate include Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Swiss and Volvo in Switzerland. Myclimate was recently named as one of the top 3 businesses worldwide for high quality offset projects. Read more in the ENDS guide to carbon offsets.
