A journey into the future

Create the future – don't just let it happen

A training course about sustainability issues should equip participants with tools that can be directly applied within their business. This course, 'A journey into the future', kick-starts practical sustainability work in an entertaining way. Concrete, positive examples are used to inspire and teach participants about building a sustainable business.

'A journey into the future' is an entertaining alternative to conventional training courses in sustainability issues, suitable for all employees in a company. The training course is internet based and takes the form of an interactive game, tailored to the nature of the company's business. Participants get to travel to different destinations around the world and perform tasks that increase their understanding of sustainable development. The course takes place over 6 to 8 weeks and involves four different phases:

Content in 'A journey into the future'
1. Check in – A full or half-day training course for all participants in the form of a combination of presentations and group discussions. The programme concentrates on incentives and driving forces, basic ecology, the impacts of business on sustainability, facts, visions, values and change processes.

2. The journey – with the help of IT. The team follows a fixed route and visits ten destinations, which are tailored to the nature of the company business. At each destination, the team undertakes a task, which is both practical and theoretical. Points are earned for each completed task. The journey aims to deepen the participants' understanding of sustainable development.

3. Passport control – the journey's final destination. The team works together to solve different problems on a limited timescale. In the final, the team is tested not only on what it has learnt about environment, ethics and social issues but also on its ingenuity and creativity in problem solving.

4. Prize giving – The team that gained most points during the journey and at passport control wins the game. First prize is a real fact-finding journey suited to the nature of the company business, which aims to strengthen the winning team's knowledge about sustainable businesses.
