To offset carbon emissions is something we recommend as a first step at the same time as working with reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon offsetting can be done in many different ways and there are some questions around the how to do it and how it works.
On way to offset carbon emissions is to invest i renewable energy or in projects that reduce the use fossil or make fossil energy more efficient. Such projects kan be alternatives to emissions trading, but they can also be something companies voluntaraly want to engage in.
